Demolition crew finds inert naval artillery shells in Detroit home

Posted

A Detroit neighborhood was put on edge when a crew preparing a house for demolition came across two artillery shells.

The house on Marlowe Street has been abandoned for many years, but someone who used to live there left behind two potentially dangerous souvenirs.

The Detroit bomb squad removed two, eight inch naval projectiles, found by  a crew preparing the house for demolition.

Fortunately, the bomb squad says they were inert-- meaning they were not at risk of exploding.

You can imagine what might have happened if they were. Police say the shells are designed to sink ships.

Back in may the bomb squad respond to a neighborhood where children at play found two hand grenades in a yard.
