Detroit BBQ Company owner under fire for post

Posted

The owner of Detroit BBQ Company is defending recent comments he made on social media.

On Tim Idzikowski’s personal Facebook page someone posted, "I had to cook 10 Boca burgers at a lunch I did for 200 people. (Yes, when someone is paying me $3G for lunch, I will cook veggie burgers and do it with a smile.) I got a lot of compliments on how I got the outside so crispy and the inside still moist. I neglected to tell them I ran otu of cooking oil and used rendered pork fat to fry them in.."

The posting was on to say “I take allergies very seriously. Vegans? Not so much. I also told them I had a special set of tongs just for them as well. (I didn’t)."

7 Action News spoke to Idzikowski by phone. He said the posting was a joke and that he would never intentionally mess with his customer’s food. He said the boca burgers he referred to in his post were microwaved.

The event was an employee appreciation event, put on by the city of Royal Oak.

A city worker confirmed, the veggie burgers never came into contact with any type of animal fat, and told me she microwaved many of those burgers herself.

Idzikowski first came under fire over the winter when he made insensitive comments about the deaths of New York police officers after an unarmed black man was killed by police.

Idzikowski apologized soon after.

He would not talk on camera Monday but said it has taken him a while to rebuild his business since then.

Idzikowski emphasized to 7 Action News that the latest posting was a joke.

He believes someone informed 7 Action News of his comment in some type of retaliation. According to Idzikowski, he is closing his Facebook account.
