A long time and much needed mental health center on Detroit’s east side is closing its doors,.

Patients are worried about services and employees are worried about jobs.

The Detroit East Health Services Center is an important part of the east side neighborhood, located at the intersection of Mack and Mt. Elliott.

It’s become a sought after spot for those in need of help.

According to its website, Detroit East Health Services was founded in 1973 by a group of caring citizens and professions, dedicated to addressing Detroit’s mental health and substance abuse problem.

For reasons unknown to employees, the place is closing, in just a few weeks time.

This week other health care providers have been on site to sign clients up with other mental health care providers in the area.

But, for this neighborhood’s most vulnerable residents, it’s a change some don’t understand, and the concern is it may set their progress back.

7 Action News reached out to Detroit East Services regarding this issue, but did not get a call back.
