Detroit Goodfellows raising money this week

Posted

Detroit Goodfellows returned to the streets this week to raise money for Christmas gifts for needy children.

The organization's President Therese Yglesias started selling special editions of The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press at 5:30 a.m. Monday at Cadillac Place in the New Center Area as part of the annual Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund drive.

Detroit police and firefighters are also out to help sell the "Goodfellow edition" at various locations in and around downtown, and in the Eastern Market.

The donations will allow the Detroit Goodfellows to distribute 30,000 gift packages from Dec. 6-18 through Detroit police precincts to children in Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park, Harper Woods and River Rouge.
