Detroit Historical Museum hosts annual African American History Family Day on Saturday, February 25

You and yours are invited down to the Detroit Historical Museum to celebrate African American history and culture during African American History Family Day on Saturday, February 25, 2017. The celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is FREE and great for all ages.
 
A month of events celebrating African American culture and heritage at the Detroit Historical Museum culminates with a day of educational and entertaining performances, historical presentations, fun activities and crafts.
 
Saturday's schedule of events:
 
10 a.m. Madelyn Porter will invite everyone to participate in a Story Living presentation about the Underground Railroad. 
12 p.m. Renowned storyteller Ivory D. Williams will entertain with unforgettable tales.
1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The youth of the Alnur African Drum and Dance group will celebrate with traditional dance, poetry, song and rhythm.
 
At the event (and throughout the month of February), visitors can also view the temporary exhibit Images of Black Detroit. This assortment of photographs from the private collections of Orlin Jones and Clyde Hopkins features rarely seen glimpses of early to mid-twentieth century black life in Detroit.
 
 
The Detroit Historical Museum is located at 5401 Woodward Ave. (NW corner of Kirby) in Midtown Detroit. It's open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free for all, all the time. Parking in the Museum's lot is $7 at all times.
