Detroit investigating possible credit card skimmer on parking kiosk

Briana Harkiewicz says she used her credit card to pay for parking in a kiosk on Washington Boulevard in Detroit last Monday and by the weekend had fraudulent charges on her account.

She believes she’s a victim of a skimmer.

But Detroit city officials say they’re not convinced the skimmer was on the parking kiosk because they say it would prevent the parking transaction from being processed. They are working with Briana to investigate.

Two parking department employees checked the kiosks after being contacted by 7 Action News on Monday.  We are told they found nothing unusual.

Skimmers are placed on the outside of machines that take credit cards - including gas pumps and ATMs and are usually removed after a day or two to get the vital information from credit cards.

Briana tells 7 Action News she contacted her bank after parking because she was suspicious and by Saturday charges of some $200 she did not make were on her account.  They’ve been stopped.
