Detroit Lions teach kids healthy habits in Fuel Up to Play 60

Posted

Local kids are getting a lesson in healthy living from a bunch of lions - the Detroit Lions.

Ford Field is filled with children who are getting schooled. Not in football, but in making healthy choices.

Fuel Up to Play 60 program teaches kids to eat better and be more active.

Some Lions players like tight end Cole Wick gave some healthy tips!

He said, "That's so important, especially for kids these days with all the fast food choices."

They spent time dancing and running around on the field. During lunch, they learned about healthy eating.

Laurie Mooney is Fuel Up to Play 60 school advisor.

She said, "The kids love the program and have learned about how to be active and be healthy and love sharing that information."

Laurie Mooney is also a mom and dietician. She says if kids learn to make better choices now, it will stay with them in the future.

"Promote the positive in what they are doing and make healthier choices and not feel guilty if they don't."

Fifth grader Landon Birchmier added, "More ways to exercise and eat better."

Cole Wick says getting advice from athletes may help kids stick with the program.

"Use my status to do good for the community and hopefully the world," he said.
