A Detroit mother described the moments when she watched her boyfriend die right in front of her Thursday night.

She was riding in a van with her boyfriend, their one-year-old daughter, and his six-year-old son. The occupants of a black Impala fired at least 7 shots inside the van, killing Derrick Blanton.

The mother, who didn't want to be identified tell us, "That was my heart. That was my soul mate. I don't know what I'm going to do."

Somehow, the two small kids avoided the gunfire. The one-year-old had her child seat shattered, but she was not hit.

The 29-year-old says, "My baby usually sits up, but she wasn't. If she was sitting up, the bullet would have went right through her head."

It's now all about finding counseling for the kids and finding a way to afford funeral arrangements. The mother has fractured bones, lost a finger, and has stitches all over her legs.

The shooter is still on the run.
