The Wayne County Prosecutor's has charged two Detroit parents in the death of their 11-month-old son. Officials are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of another of their babies.

Thirty-year-old Lorenzo Brooks and 38-year-old Leticia Molton has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and Second Degree Child Abuse. They are expected to be arraigned Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in 34th District Court in Romulus.

Prosecutors allege 11-month-old boy was taken by Brooks to St. John Hospital early yesterday morning. Brooks allegedly said he was drunk and fell asleep on top of the child.

Police have also confirmed the couple's 6-month-old daughter was killed in September 2014. The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of death in her case to be an airway obstruction due to an unsafe sleep environment.

Police sources say the baby girl was sleeping between both parents two years ago. No charges were issued then.

Both parents were arrested on Thursday.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner has completed the autopsy of the 11-month-old baby boy, and the results of the autopsy are pending further investigation.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, “There are babies in this county dying that should not be dying. Unsafe sleep practices can be just as fatal to a baby as a gun or knife. The alleged actions of both parents in this case are criminal – they knew their alleged actions could result in the death of their child.”
