Memorial Day was no holiday for some active service men and women who came home to Detroit.
Detroit police arrested four young men shortly after they allegedly robbed the active duty sailors at gunpoint Monday afternoon. Quick-thinking witnesses called police while the robbery was in progress.
The two men and two women were hanging out in Detroit while on leave.
On witness watched it unfold right outside her window at the Village Square Apartments at Santa Clara and Meyers near 6 Mile and the Lodge.
“They were loading up their car, another car pulled up, two jumped out with guns and told ‘em to put your hands up,” she told us.
7 Action News cameras are rolling as the four young men were arrested – all between ages 17 to 21.
According to police, they still had the stuff that had been taken earlier that afternoon.
Witnesses called police and gave them descriptions of the men and their getaway car. They were found within the hour, not far away on the west side.
One of the perps was wearing a t-shirt with an American flag on it and the lettering: American freedom. Now, he’s in custody.
Since four of their victims are active Navy and their IDs are part of the take, the feds could get involved in this case, making it more than just another street robbery.
Two of the victims are from Detroit and two were visiting, according to police.
No shots were fired and no one was injured. The victims gave up their stuff without a fight.
