The southbound lanes of M-39 were shut down for hours Sunday morning after a man was hit and killed on the freeway. It happened near the Schoolcraft exit.
Police say several people called 911 saying the victim had been running through traffic before he was hit. His body was found next to an SUV with Florida plates. A car with a smashed windshield was parked a short distance away.
According to police, the 30-year-old man died at the scene, and the driver did stop and is cooperating with police.
The freeway was closed for about four hours while police investigated.
