DPD searching for suspect who shot up car

Posted

Detroit police are looking for the man who shot up a car outside an auto shop on the city's west side Friday afternoon.

It happened just before 1 p.m. at the Discount Auto Clinic at Tireman and Burnette. Right now, police do not have anyone in custody, and surveillance video from inside the shop isn't helping.

We're told the video doesn't show much, other than a man apparently running away from the scene.

"Somebody came up and started shooting on that car, and started chasing who owned the car," Ali Catalan said. He works at the shop.

The car he described is a red Chrysler 300, with windows shot out and showing clear damage from a wreck.

Investigators believe the shooting stems from that accident.

Officers say the man used an AK-47 in the shooting, and fired several shots.

Only one person was shot, and they were grazed by a bullet, according to police. They declined medical attention.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
