Teens wanted in attempted carjacking in Detroit

Posted

Detroit police are looking for two teens who tried to carjack a man at gunpoint at a gas station on the city's west side on Friday night.

According to police, the only reason they couldn't pull it off was because the car wouldn't start.

Detectives with the commercial auto theft section say the suspects were likely loitering around looking for an unsuspecting victim. They were even lingering at the Speedy gas station on Wyoming near Joy.

The two young men, one described as 15-16 years old, the other 18-19 years old, approach the victim after he went inside to pay for gas.

When the victim looked down at his phone, the teen pulled out a silver gun and demanded his keys.

The victim gives him the keys and runs inside the store as both suspects get into his car. Surveillance video shows them trying to start the car, but they can't because it had a push start ignition. That scares them off and they run away.

The first suspect is described as an 18 or 19-year-old black male wearing a gray hoodie. The other is a 15 or 16-year-old black male in a black hooded jacket. He was also wearing printed pajama pants.
