New clear bag policy at Joe Louis Arena

Posted

The Detroit Red Wings announced a new policy that they hope will keep fans safe and expedite entry into Joe Louis Arena.

The clear bag policy begins with the Red Wings' first preseason home game on Sept. 23.

Fans will only be allowed to carry a certain type of bag into Joe Louis Arena, and guests with a non-compliant bag will be asked to return it to their car.

The types of bags allowed into Joe Louis Arena include:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag that doesn't exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag style or similar)
  • Small clutch bags not exceeding 9" x 6" - approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap - can be taken into The Joe with one of the clear plastic bag options above

The team said the policy is designed to shorten lines and speed up the security screening process as fans enter the arena.

Fans can continue to carry smart phones, tablets, cameras and binoculars into The Joe, as well as personal items that fit into your pockets.

Prohibited items include: Purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat cushions, luggage of any size, computer bags, camera bags or any bag larger than permissible size.
