A 9-year-old girl is recovering at Children's Hospital in Detroit after her father says she received third-degree burns while playing at her cousin's house.
Jamal Caver says his daughter, Teosha Nickerson, was visiting her cousin Sunday on Maxwell when her 13-year- old cousin started playing with a lighter and alcohol.
"Her cousin, 13-year-old cousin, was doing a science project for school. I'm like what school would give a kid permission to use alcohol and fire," Caver says.
Caver says he and Teosha's mother were not at the home, but adults were present.
Teosha burns go from her chest up. She's expected to be in the hospital for a while, but is in stable condition.
"Just make sure your child is being watched at all times when you leave them with somebody. Make sure it's with somebody responsible," He says.
Her family has created a GoFundMe account to help with the medical expenses.
