Urban League celebrates 100th anniversary

Posted

The Detroit Urban League is celebrating a milestone - it's 100th anniversary.

At its annual Distinguished Warriors Dinner, the league honored Representative John Conyers, former Chrysler executive Roy Levy Williams and George Barnes, the owner of Heritage Optical Centers.

The Urban League was founded after the turn of last century as blacks, moving to Detroit by the thousands, ran into obstacles from discrimination to lack of education and job training.
