DETROIT (WXYZ) — As the weather warms up, Detroit Police Chief James Craig says they will deploy their officers where the people are - in parks, on the Detroit River and in Greektown.

“Certainly, we do add staff to Downtown, Greektown, cause there’s more people that converge on the entertainment district. So, it’s nothing unusual. We’re not doing any different than they do in other large cities,” the chief said.

Greektown has had its share of big city trouble requiring police. After a stabbing a week and a half ago, police are able to make an arrest within minutes.

In May of last year, shots are fired outside of a popular Greektown bar. \

The chief says additional Detroit Police are working second jobs downtown hired by businesses, “We have roughly a hundred officers working secondary employment in and around the downtown area.”
