Detroit police say they have busted an illegal grow operation discovered while they were investigating a fake GoFundMe page.

The page was apparently made to profit off the death of slain DPD Sgt. Kenneth Steil.

"This is a despicable act of selfishness and greed.  Utilizing a GoFundMe account to collect money on behalf of a fallen officer with no authorization from the family or the Detroit Police Department,” said Commander Elvin Barren with the Detroit Police Department.

Officers came to the house to seize electronic devices. They say they also discovered illegal guns during their search of the east side home.

Police say the suspects are not talking.

One suspect's mother was herself taken into custody on a felonious assault charge. Officers say she tried to run over a police officer when they arrived on the scene.
