The body of a man missing since March 30 has been found in southwest Detroit, according to family members.
Detroit Police will wait on a positive identification, but the two women who have had children with Ashton Butler tell 7 Action News the search for the 26-year-old is over.
"This is terrible," said Melanie Brown, who had a daughter with Butler. "This is like the worst thing I've ever experienced."
Emotions spilled over as family and friends gathered Wednesday afternoon at the corner of Ethel and Francis.
The body of a black male was discovered in the trunk of a car inside a garage on Ethel.
According to police, the owner of the rental property stopped to check on the house. He called 911 after finding a car in the garage that didn't belong there and the body in the trunk.
Detectives went door-to-door on Ethel and nearby streets to ask residents if they had seen anything unusual at the house, which is located in the 3100 block of Ethel.
The Medical Examiner arrived just before 3 p.m.
In recent days, family members and friends had passed out flyers with Butler's picture throughout the neighborhood and also in stores in the area.
Upon arriving at the scene, Whitney Walton, commander of fourth precinct, said there were no obvious signs of trauma on the body. The death was initially being treated as suspicious.
