A family is devastated over the tragic death of a 6-year-old little boy. Police say Luciano Cruz died when his dad accidentally ran him over.
It happened outside his home on Parkwood near Michigan Avenue in southwest Detroit.
“I don’t want to believe it,” said Alyssa Castillo, Luciano’s cousin. “It hurts.”
Police say Luciano’s dad told them he put his son into the backseat of his 4-door Saturn Vue, but somehow he got out.
When the father got in and started to back up, he didn’t realize his son was outside and behind his car until it was too late.
“It appears to be a true accident,” said Director Michael Woody, of the Detroit Police Department.
This comes after several similar incidents. Last month a 5-year-old boy died in Pontiac when his mom backed over him and ten-month-old Jada Taylor died when she ran in front of her mom’s car in Detroit.
Detroit Police hope people hear these stories of accidents that happen in a tragic moment and choose caution.
For Luciano’s family, the heartbreak seems unbearable.
“He was a good little boy. He loved video games, riding his bike, toys,” said Graciano Castillo, Luciano’s Godfather.
“Cherish those you love,” said Alyssa. “Tomorrow is never promised. He was a good boy. He always had a smile on his face.”
A GoFundMe account has been set up to raise money for funeral expenses.
