The community gathered to remember a young woman killed by a suspected drunk driver on Detroit’s east side.

Jerrica Hicks, 26, was driving near Mayfield & Chalmers St. early Monday morning, when Detroit Police said another driver slammed into her car, killing her.

Tuesday, the suspect, Johnathon Horton, 31, was arraigned in court.  He is charged with OWI Causing Death and Manslaughter Motor Vehicle.  Police told 7 Action News he was driving up to 100 miles per hour when the crash happened.

Tuesday night, dozens of family and friends of Jerrica Hicks gathered for a candlelight vigil.

"It's really very shocking that this happened to her,” said her sister Tiffane Hicks.

Jerrica leaves behind a young son, sisters, brothers and a large extended family.

Tiffane Hicks wants other drivers to think hard before getting behind the wheel drunk.

"Think about other lives that you're putting in danger, because you're trying to be out here driving fast and showing off for whoever else is with you, it's not safe,” said Hicks.

Horton is due back in court on June 3.
