Judge rules Pugh has to pay up in lawsuit

He fled the city after a scandal, but Charles Pugh won’t be able to escape a hefty judgment.

The former Detroit City Council President is going to have to come up with a lot of cash to pay the young man who took him to court.

Pugh tried fighting this, but now a federal judge has ruled Pugh must pay $250,000 to the former student who sued him.

Now Pugh is more than just sorry, he’s been overruled.

A federal judge has ordered the former Detroit City Council President to hand over the $250,000.

A former Detroit public schools student sued Pugh, telling a jury that instead of mentoring him -- Pugh pursued him sexually – even paying the teen to make a sex tape.

Last month, a jury decided that the ex-city leader did cause emotional distress and they awarded the young man $250,000.

But Pugh argued to the judge that he shouldn’t have to pay a dime because DPS already agreed to a $350,000 settlement with the student for what Pugh claims is the same injury.

Judge David Lawson disagreed, and issued a judgment ordering Pugh to pay the $250,000.

It may be some time before the Plaintiff can collect that money.

Meanwhile, Detroit police are investigating new criminal sexual conduct allegations against Pugh.
