Three children, believed to be ages 6, 11 and 12, are recovering after a man driving a silver Impala crashed into the car being driven by the 12-year-old's father.

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. at the corner of Florence and Mark Twain on Detroit's west side.

And cameras for 7 Action News were rolling as firefighters used what's called the "jaws of life" to get the 12-year-old girl, who had been pinned in the front passenger seat, out of the car.

Witnesses told police that the driver of the Impala blew through his yield sign and broadsided the father and children.

And moments after the crash, the man who caused the crash took off running, repeating "I don't want to go to jail," according to witnesses.

The hit and run driver is described as a black man wearing a white shirt and dark-colored Adidas pants. He may have sustained cuts in the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to call Detroit Police.
