"I just don't know why my baby is dead and I can't wrap my mind around it," said Nikole Jackson whose 27-year-old daughter, Sherrol White, was killed by a friend's angry ex.

White, a recent graduate of Oakland University, had a bright future ahead of her in the field of social work.

But early Monday morning, the Oak Park woman was murdered when her friend's ex-boyfriend went on a shooting rampage inside the friend's Wreford street home on Detroit's west side.

White spent Sunday night at her friend's apartment to help the new mother whose baby is now just ten days old.

White was the baby's godmother, and she was aware that the child's father could be trouble.

"I think she didn't imagine it would get to this," said Jackson.

And by the time it was all over, White was dead, the baby's mother had been shot, and the baby's father dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Jackson never imagined she'd have to bury the young light of her life. A fund has been set upfor anyone who wishes to help her with her daughter's funeral expenses.
