DETROIT (WXYZ) — All children should have an opportunity to become the very the best they can be and you are about meet to 24 kids who are well on their way.
The Detroit City Lions Youth Club is a group of shining stars in the classroom and on the football field.
7 Action News Reporter Andrea Isom is trying to help them show their success across the country. And you can too!
Last year Devon Buskin and his wife decided to create a non-profit organization, a free environment, showing young people love, support, and consistency. Its goal is to promote a respectful, optimistic, and winning spirit in sports and in the classroom.
Buskin wants the kids to understand the value of hard work and having fun and the same time.
A few weeks ago, The Detroit City Lions Youth Club Football Team did both. The team, made up of 7 and 8-year-olds, won the regional championship in Chicago.
According to Buskin, they beat one of the best teams in the history of youth football by a score of 39 to 0.
Now the team has advanced to the National Championship in Orlando. The big show is the first week in December and the team needs your help to get there.
“Unfortunately, a lot of these kids come from low income housing and it’s so close to Christmas. Families want to do more, but they can’t. And this is a way a give back. Detroit has a lot of talent and we want to change the narrative of what people think about Detroit. We have a lot of people that are hungry, that need an opportunity, that need the exposure, and are determined to win. And that’s exactly what these kids did! Not just on the field but also in the classroom,” says Buskin.
And you don’t have to wait for Giving Tuesday to help these little lions roar. So, please give what you can, from your heart and soul!
Just like they do!
