DETROIT (WXYZ) — A teen on his way to school this morning on Detroit’s west side was approached by a man who exposed himself and was talking trouble.
The teen who we’re not identifying by name says he asked, “Did I want to get into the car with him and did I want to do stuff with him.”
He called 911 on his cell phone and police knew where to come by tracking his phone. They arrested the man on the spot and found more trouble inside his car.
The teen says, “I didn’t know he had a gun until police retrieved it from the car. All I thought was I was glad I didn’t get into the car with him. And I’m glad he didn’t use it.”
The teen’s mother is Troya Thomas.
She says, “Most people find their kids buried in the back yard, or dead. I was one of the lucky parents.”
The teen turns 16 tomorrow and has this message for other kids, keep your eyes open, not on your phone. But also keep it close.
He says, “Watch your surroundings for sure.”
Detroit Police arrested a 38-year-old man and will be taking the case to the prosecutor for formal charges.
The teen’s mother says, “He had a gun. He’s 16, you’re going to rape and shoot by baby! He needs to go to jail. I don’t feel sorry for him for his family, none of that. I want him locked up.”
