17-year-old charged in connection with attempted abduction of a 5-year-old in Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) — On Monday 7 Action News showed you the shocking video of a man allegedly trying to kidnap a little girl.


Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has now charged Fernando San-Miguel, 17, of Detroit, for the crime.

It happened on Feb. 24 at approximately 3:20 p.m.

The 5-year-old girl and her 11-year-old sister were in their backyard in the 1100 block of Wheelock in Detroit. A surveillance camera at a nearby business showed that when the 11-year-old girl went to retrieve a ball from the front yard, a man followed her.

The 11-year-old girl told her dad the man grabbed her 5-year-old sister and tried to pull her over a back fence into a neighbor’s yard .

San-Miguel has been charged with one count of kidnapping, child enticement. His bond was set at $500,000 cash.
