Some people have falsely reported tragic situations on social media as a way to get attention or sympathy, but Mickey Robinson says he's not one of them.
Robinson claims to be the owner of a security company that employees 72 security guards, and he says 50 of them are licensed to carry a concealed firearm. 7 Action News could not find a state record of his company.
"Everyone please keep my security team in yall prayers... One of my officers was shot in the line of duty tonight.. He is in surgery at the moment... Just keep us in your prayers please... In Jesus mighty name #amen," he posted on Facebook Tuesday night.
A spokesperson for Detroit Police says they did not get a report of any such incident from a caller or from St. John Hospital where Robinson claimed "the whole company" had converged to check on their injured colleague last night.
A spokesperson for St. John Hospital tells 7 Action News that they would have notified authorities of anyone coming in with a gunshot injury.
Robinson promotes himself as a community activist who is doing his part to stop the violence. But he didn't have much to say when asked why he didn't alert police to his claims of a shooting involving one of his "officers" that he says was the result of a scuffle at a senior citizen housing center on Detroit's east side.
Robinson removed the Facebook post after 7 Action News called him Wednesday morning.
And Robinson later said that he did not report the shooting to police because he wanted to conduct his own investigation first.
Robinson gave 7 Action News the name of the reportedly wounded security officer, but he later claimed that he just learned his "employee" gave him an alias and that the man shot himself while playing with his own gun.
Robinson did not have a response when we told him that St. John Hospital did not treat any gunshot victims Tuesday night.
7 Action News talked to a manager and the security guard where Robinson resides in an apartment building in Detroit near Second Avenue and Clairmount Street. Both believe that Robinson's employment at a local casino as a security guard was recently terminated.
