Firefighters and law enforcement officers gathered Wednesday to honor Colby, the Detroit Fire Department's first arson dog.

Colby, a 10-year-old black Labrador Retriever, recently died unexpectedly from medical problems.

Colby was Lt. Omar Davidson's K-9 partner, and she was donated to the DFD by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

K-9 Colby is credited with many arrests and convictions of arsonists. And while she retired a year ago, Colby co-trained the Detroit Fire Department's new ATF certified arson dog, K-9 Pasta.

When a pet cremation company learned that Colby was an arson dog, they donated their services.

Colby's loss is greatly felt by Lt. Davidson and his family.

"She was like my third child," says Dana Davidson.
