Tawanna Rankin says the pain remains unbearable - her 15-year-old dying in a way she didn't deserve.
"She had her whole life ahead of her," says Rankin.
The teen was shot in Detroit last fall, while visiting family.
Someone was speeding down the street. Her brother yelled for them to slow down. But in return, the driver pulled out a gun and started shooting, fatally striking Jada.
A woman was in the car with him.
Jada's mom is hoping she or someone else will come forward to help solve her daughter's murder. The case has gone cold.
"My hope is, the story never ends."
A standout high school student in Sterling Heights, the school even gave Rankin her daughter's locker. After all, there's no replacing Jada.
At her funeral, the girl's nursery school teacher gave her mom a life size illuminated angel.
"This is like a little symbol I light up every day. This is just what I'm left with. I love it. This is her."
