Detroit Police Chief James Craig says the mother involved in a crash that killed her 6-year-old daughter was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Loved ones gathered around a tree on Edmore Street on the city's east side Tuesday night to remember 6-year-old Myiah Tisdale.

That's where a single car crash killed Myiah and injured her one-year-old brother.

Their mother, Antaneisha Tisdale, was behind the wheel.

Neighbors say she was speeding, lost control, and hit a tree. The accident happened after Tisdale celebrated her 25th birthday.

Family members say Tisdale is unconscious and does not yet know she's lost her daughter.

Originally, police had heard that the father had possibly been chasing them in another vehicle, but that turned out not to be the case. Myiah's father has been in the hospital battling a long term illness. His family fears losing a daughter will prove too much for him to bear.
