A man is in the custody of Michigan State Police after, troopers say, he shined a handheld laser on a trooper who was driving to an accident.

The incident happened Friday evening at around 8:20 p.m. on I-94 at West Grand Boulevard.

MSP says the trooper's partner was able to identify the suspect. He was taken into custody and taken to the Metro South post.

The trooper who was hit by the laser was taken to the hospital to be treated for vision problems and a headache. He is expected to be okay.

It's not yet clear what charges the man in custody will face.

MSP first announced the arrested on Twitter.
