DETROIT (WXYZ) — Police are investigating a shooting at a home on Detroit's west side that injured a woman and a baby.

"I heard about 18 shots," Gregory Little, who lives next door said.

Officers say the woman answered a knock at the door at around 7:10 p.m. in the 16800 block of Freeland. When she opened the door, the masked suspect opened fire hitting her in the body.

At the time, the 23-year-old woman was holding a one-month-old baby girl who was grazed.

Police have not released the current conditions of either victim.

A third woman was in the house at the time and was not injured.

7 Action News sources say Detroit's gang intelligence unit is investigating. However, the circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.

The disturbing crime sent shockwaves through the community. Several neighbors said they would consider moving because of the crime.

"I've been here for about 30 years," Little said. "Maybe, it's time to seek shelter somewhere else."

We are trying to leave," Julisa Gore, also lives on the block said. "It is too close to home."
