New Judge at helm of federal court in Detroit

Posted

The gavel has been passed inside the U.S. District Court in Detroit.  Judge Denise Page Hood has officially taken over as Chief Judge.

After almost 9 years as Chief Judge, Judge Gerald Rosen will be staying on the bench, but today he passed the responsibilities of running the court to Judge Hood.

Judge Hood will oversee the federal court’s 320 employees and nearly $27 million budget.

Judge Hood says she will continue to ensure the federal court is a place where everyone is treated with respect and fairness, and she plans to continue the court’s efforts to improve the diversity of the jury pool.

Judge Hood has been on the federal bench since 1994.

More than 600 people attended her investiture ceremony Thursday afternoon, including her husband, Rev. Nicholas Hood, III, Senior Minister of Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit.
