Police: Barricaded gunman situation ends peacefully in Southwest Detroit

Posted

What was believed to be a barricaded gunman situation overnight ended peacefully early Saturday morning.

Police say it all started at a party at a home on South Patricia Street near I-75 and Fort Street.

People were drinking and a fight broke out, investigators said.

Police say the homeowner went outside, fired several shots into the air in the direction of some of the people who were at the party and then went back inside.

A woman was also inside the home at the time. When police responded to the scene, they treated the situation as a barricaded gunman with a hostage.

The standoff ended around 6:20 a.m., police said. No injuries were reported.

The woman who was inside the home during the alleged standoff said she never felt like she was in any danger.

Police say the homeowner who fired the shots could face charges of felonious assault.
