A bicycle shop in Midtown is temporarily closed due to safety concerns.
Sherry Mclaughlin is the board president for Back Alley Bikes and The Hub of Detroit.
She says someone posted that they were assaulted by the owner and staff. The shop posted surveillance video after threats started getting out of hand on social media.
Sherry says an African American man was asked to leave after making racial comments to another black man who works at the hub.
When they escorted him out with his bike Sherry says the employee was shoved.
The review was taken down, but The Hub says their staff are concerned about the threats they've received.
"It was frightening how reactionary the posts were. People were saying why hadn’t the Hub been burnt down yet,” she says.
Sherry says the money made at the bike shop goes towards helping those in need get a bicycle and they hope with this video they'll be able to continue to do that work.
"It would be really helpful for the people to Back Alley Bikes and The Hub to know that their work is valued and that the community is behind them.”
