Several Detroit pastors planning protests over expensive sewer fees

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department will be charging new drainage fees starting in October.

Several Detroit pastors are launching a campaign to "cease and desist" with the new fees.

Some pastors say they will have to close. Others own several lots and this will cost them thousands of dollars a year.

The city says they will raise $10 million a year in the fees and they are "right-sizing" by charging these new fees to every land owner - large and small.

The fees are based on the size of the land.

The pastors want to protest at the next DWSD Board of Commissioners meeting, Wednesday, September 21, 1:00 pm in the DWSD Building, 735 Randolph, 5th Floor.

Also at the Great Lakes Water Authority Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, September 28 at 2:00 pm in the DWSD Building.
