Several state and federal lawmakers toured Detroit Public Schools on Friday morning.
State Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo, Rep. John Conyers, State Sen. Goeff Hanson, House Democratic Leader Tim Greimel, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, State Rep. Brian Banks and more were on the tour.
It's all part of "The Urgency of Now Legislative Ed" tour aimed at fostering discussion n education policy and checking out key aspects of the Detroit Public Schools system.
Also, the tour hoped to highlight the achievements of several schools which received a Michigan Department of Education grant.
Among the schools toured were Gompers Elementary, Communication Media Arts High School, Cass Tech, Pulaski Elementary and more.
7 Action News Reporter Kim Russell has reported on the conditions inside some Detroit schools. Teachers even said one school was literally making them sick.
On Wednesday, Duggan announced that all DPS schools were to be inspected by the end of April, and if violations are found, the city will take appropriate steps to rectify them.
