Brother and sister, Samuel and Rachel Hansen, are at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit together. They are getting medicine they hope will help them fight cystic fibrosis.
“It is supposed to be helping me get better,” said Samuel. “I feel a little better.”
They are in isolation toughing out the treatment.
“It is hard being in the hospital. Very hard,” he said.
As he sat in the hospital room, suddenly there were superheroes outside his window. Spiderman and Captain America cleaned the windows, waved and smiled. The patients smiled back.
It was the idea of the workers at Transparent Window Cleaning. They said if we are going to be cleaning windows at Children’s Hospital, why not become super heroes and brighten the days of children?
“It is amazing to see kids and see them smile,” said a man we will call “Captain America.”
The superheroes appeared outside the room of 7-year-old Davon after he had just undergone tough treatments for a build up of fluid on his brain. He joked, but not really - asking his dad could the superheroes rescue him from his hospital room?
“I like to see the smile on his face and the other kids. They go through so much in here,” said Don Newbern, Davon’s dad.
“They are the real heroes, right?” said Captain America. “They are the ones that are battling everyday. We are just here to help their day out, make them smile, and help them push through. If we can do that we have accomplished our goal.”
