Third Annual Corktown Aglow to be held December 8th in Detroit

Third Annual Corktown Aglow will be held on Saturday, December 8 in Detroit's Corktown area.

Presented by Ford Motor Company, the event is designed by the Corktown Business Association to increase awareness of Detroit's oldest neighborhood as a destination for shopping and family fun.

The full day of events include a host of free family activities from athletic and STEM activities to live reindeer, a visit with Santa and the tree lighting by Garlin Gilchrist II Lieutenant Governor of Michigan-elect.

Event goers can tour historic sites, shop the stores, visit restaurants and take free and convenient shuttles from popular downtown spots.

The schedule of activities runs from 12 noon to 10:00 p.m. All events are free and family friendly. A complete list of events and sponsors is available at https://corktownaglow.com/

Among the highlights are:

* 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Holiday Party at Detroit PAL includes free outdoor soccer clinic, Pistons Street Team and Hooper the Pistons Mascot offering discounted Pistons tickets, fowling, make & take crafts, and Children's Only Shoppe.

* Noon to 6:00 p.m. Tours of The Workers Row House, Corktown's experiential museum dating to 1849.

* 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Meet Rudolph, the Grinch and live reindeer in a petting zoo at Trumbull and Leverette streets.

* 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Visits and photos with Santa Claus at Trumbull and Bagley streets. 
Enjoy roasting complimentary marshmallows over an open fire and free hot chocolate.

6:15 p.m. Tree Lighting at Trumbull and Bagley streets followed by caroling led by opera singer Giles Simmer and the Detroit Alumni Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. Announcement of 1st Annual Corktown Historical Society Holiday Home Decorating Contest winner.

7:00 - 10:00 p.m. After Aglow at Trumbull and Bagley streets, an all-ages Block Party in heated tent with beer, cocktails, and bites for purchase.

Throughout the Day:

* 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. Shop and Bingo
Get a passport at any participating Corktown business or on the free shuttle. Collect at least five stamps at participating businesses and bring passport to The Farmer's Hand before 6:00 p.m. to register for prizes including grand prize of dinner for two at Iridescence and a one-night stay at Motor City Casino Hotel. 

* 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. 'Stuff a Cop Car' Donations 
Detroit Police Department will collect items at Trumbull and Bagley streets then distribute them to the 3rd Precinct Adopt-A-Family program. Requested items include new unwrapped toys, new socks, blankets, gloves, hats, scarves and new or gently used coats and sweaters.

* 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 6th Annual Southwest Holiday Fest. Among the activities in southwest Detroit are several entertaining and educational ones at the Ford Resource and Engagement Center including a performance by Living Arts and art and coding workshops. 2826 Bagley Detroit, MI 48216
