Thursday's Top 7: Best yoga studios in metro Detroit

(WXYZ) — Some people do yoga to improve flexibility. Others do yoga become stronger. Some for the peace of mind and inner serenity. And no matter whether you're a long time yogi or just starting out. No matter what drives your interest in yoga, our Keenan Smith has the best yoga studio in our Thursday's Top 7.

7. YOGA SHELTER (MULTIPLE LOCATIONS)

We're starting off at Yoga Shelter. They have 4 locations including Royal Oak & West Bloomfield. Combined they offer move than 150 classes a week. Strengthen your body, & leave your schedule flexible. It's 7th in our viewer poll.

6. MI YOGA ROOM (PLYMOUTH)

Mi Yoga room in Plymouth and Northville comes in 6th. They also get high marks for the number of classes and the spacious feel of the studio.

5. YOGA 4 PEACE (SOUTHGATE)

Yoga 4 Peace is a non profit yoga studio in Southgate. In addition to traditional classes, Yoga 4 Peace also holds free yoga classes for under-privileged youth to teach coping skills and focus.

4. DETROIT YOGA LAB (MIDTOWN & GROSSE POINTE)

Detroit Yoga Lab comes in 4th. They have locations in Midtown and Grosse Pointe. The mission here is an elevated, educated + modern approach to yoga.

3. CITIZEN YOGA (ROYAL OAK)

Next on our list is citizen Yoga in Royal Oak. Here the focus is on alignment. Carolyn Rowland says she loves the variety of teachers and styles. "Everyone is so friendly", Rowland says. "This is my yoga home."

2. CENTER FOR YOGA (BIRMINGHAM)

Our runner up is the Center For Yoga. The center was founded in 1993. The classes here include lowburn, hot vinyasa and yin. Check out the weekly kid's class each Saturday.

1. BIKRAM YOGA (MIDTOWN DETROIT)

Number one on our list is Bikram Yoga Midtown Detroit. Bikram Yoga is a hot yoga and when we say hot. We mean HOT!

The actual studio is warmed about 105 degrees. It was 107 we when stopped by. Zenarr Dishmon says bikram yoga is harder than any other exercise she's ever done. "A lot of that I don't do anymore as much as I used to, but yoga stays" says Dishmon.

Remember yoga can be practiced by people of all ages from kids to seniors. And the studios all offer classes for beginners.
