Detroit police say they have arrested a driver who hit a police car overnight, injuring an officer, before running from the scene.

The DPD scout car was heading eastbound on Nevada, between Mound and Ryan Roads, when it was hit by the suspect's vehicle.

The suspect then took off from the scene on foot. Police searched the area for hours and finally arrested the driver around 7 a.m. Wednesday at a gas station near Van Dyke and Savage in northeast Detroit.

Two officers were in the scout car at the time. Rescue crews needed to cut both officers out of the vehicle with the jaws of life.

One officer was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital. She suffered injuries to her arm and is currently in stable condition.

Michigan State Police are on the scene, assisting with the investigation and search.
