Woman hit and dragged in store parking lot

Posted

A woman is recovering in the hospital after she was hit and dragged in a grocery store parking lot Saturday evening.
Tanya Lindsey told Action News she and her husband were in the parking lot of the Aldi on Gratiot near 8 Mile on the east side when they saw the driver of an SUV hit a woman and roll over her.

"As I heard the impact, my husband saw her get hit right here. As I turned around [the driver] was actually dragging her body probably like a foot or two feet over," Lindsey described. Lindsey said she and her husband rushed to the SUV, helped get the vehicle in neutral, and pushed it back to free the woman who was trapped under the front tires.
“We covered her up and I just laid on the ground with her and kept talking and praying," Lindsey said.

The victim, believed to be in her late 50s or early 60s, was badly scratched up, but alert when paramedics arrived. She was rushed to St. John Hospital. Police told witnesses she is expected to recover. The driver of the SUV stayed on scene and cooperated with officers.
