Search for owner of hurt dog takes bizarre turn

"It is strange," says Estella Ward-Secrest about the tag on the collar of an injured dog that included her address along with the name "Prince."

Ward-Secrest says she's lived in her home on Washburn for 41 years.

She currently owns Bentley, a Yorkie that is a little over a year old. But she says no one, including her husband and grandchildren who reside with her, would have registered the other dog to her residence, because she says she's never seen him before.

Detroit Animal Control recently picked up the dog, now named Faygo, and quickly turned him over to Detroit Dog Rescue (DDR) because he was in desperate need of emergency medical care for a puncture wound to his right eye.

"Somebody knows something," said DDR Executive Director Kristina Rinaldi.

Rinaldi spent much of the weekend with Faygo who is believed to also be about a year old and the veterinarian was forced to remove his eye due to the severity of injury.

Rinaldi tells 7 Action News that it appears someone used some sort of object to puncture Faygo's eye.

"This is not consistent with a car accident," said Rinaldi. "There are no other injuries to his body. This is some sort of blunt force trauma to his head and to his eye."

Since no one has stepped up to claim Faygo, Detroit Dog Rescue is hoping for help with covering the cost of his medical care which the veterinarian expects will reach $7,000.

DDR will also be holding a special fundraiser for Faygo at Blarney Stone Pub in Berkley this Saturday from 5 pm to 10 pm.

Blarney Stone Pub is located at 27253 Woodward Ave.

Anyone with any information on the puppy, or his injuries, is urged to contact DDR through their website at DetroitDogRescue.com.
