A woman is being credited for saving a teenage boy's life after she gave him a life saving helmet.

Today’s meeting with a 13-year-old boy she barely knows was a reunion Betty Haller never expected.

And a meeting that boy’s mother has been waiting for.

Joy's son Jared met Betty 2 weeks ago while cycling on the Macomb Orchard Bike Trail.

Betty had just been hit by a car while on her bike and miraculously survived with just bruises when Jared asked if she was okay.

When Betty noticed Jared wasn't wearing a helmet she gave him the helmet she was wearing.

Little did she know Jared would be in a bike accident the very next day just 50 yards away - flying over the handle bars, hitting his head first, breaking his arm in two places.

The helmet cracked. Jared’s head was just fine.

Why would a Betty give a complete stranger the helmet off her own head?

“I remember the feeling I had and said ‘Thank God I had my helmet on,’ and then when he came along and he didn't have a helmet on. I felt I had to give it to him,” she says.

“I just wanted her to know how appreciative we are for her generosity and what she did for our family,” Jared’s mother says. “I can't even express it. Betty, well, you've made my year just showing the appreciation. That’s very special to me.

They are planning on staying in touch.
