The Bruce Township clerk charged with being Super Drunk is seeking a plea deal and not stepping down.
Susan Brockmann was arrested last September and kept it quiet during the election. She was reelected in November and has been in office since 2008.
The charge was issued in mid-November after blood alcohol test results came back.
In court Wednesday, her defense attorney asked the Judge for 30 days to try to work out a plea deal. That was granted.
But the Chief Trial Attorney in the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Jean Cloud, tells 7 Action News they don’t deal down “Super Drunk” cases - including this one.
Judge William Hackel, III said in court he’s getting letters from people. Many in Bruce Township have said Brockmann should resign or should have let voters know about her arrest.
She was not in her township office after court. Her attorney tells 7 Action News she has no plans to resign but would not comment further.
In September, she was at the township hall at 3:00 am when the building alarm went off.
Michigan State Police responded.
It is not known if Brockmann set it off, but she backed her car into the state police cruiser. She was arrested and State Police said her blood alcohol was more than two times the legal limit, above .17.
If convicted, penalties include up to 180 days in jail, 360 hours of community service, fines up to $700 and loss of license for a year.
