A 24-year-old Chesterfield Township resident is facing 4 years in prison after being accused of stabbing a dog and assaulting a woman.
Patrick Oconnor has been charged with misdemeanor Domestic Violence and a felony charge of Torturing/Killing animals. He as taken into custody on Tuesday.
Police were first contacted about Oconnor on February 1. That's when a veterinarian reported that a pit-bull mix had been brought in with nine stab wounds.
The woman who brought the dog in stated that her ex-boyfriend had stabbed the dog, but she refused to give his name.
Chesterfield police investigated and focused on Oconnor, but they were unable to make contact with him.
Then, at 3:30 a.m. on February 10, police responded to a domestic violence call at the Georgetown apartments on 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township. That's where Oconnor was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting a 29-year-old woman.
While Oconnor was in custody, police questioned him about the injured dog. He reportedly told them he had an alcohol and anger management problem and that "I did what I did."
Investigators believe that Oconnor stabbed the dog after it defecated on the floor of his apartment.
Oconnor has been arraigned on the charges. He is currently being held in the Macomb County Jail on $20,000 bond.
