Police say they have a man in custody who broke into a Clinton Township home Monday and had a bizarre encounter with the man who lives in the home.

It happened at a home along Heydenreich.

John Broderick came home for his routine lunch break.

"He’s standing in my kitchen,” said John. “He’s got my slippers on. I was like okay. What was I supposed to say?”

John told 7 Action News he had to think quickly.

“I ran to my bedroom and to grab my pistol,” said John. “Then I lifted up my mattress and my pistol was gone.  Then I look over and the magazine was gone. Oh no, so I kinda new that he had it."

John tried to figure out what his intruder wanted.

“I walked in and said what’s going on?,” said John. “He didn’t answer, he stared at me.  I turned around and ran and before I know he’s poppin' rounds like 8 times.”

After John had ran out the garage door, the intruder shot through the garage door at John multiple times.

John was not injured. His wife Pam still shaken up about John’s terrifying encounter.

“I work in Troy,” says Pam Broderick. "I flew home. I called him at lunch and he said I can’t talk to you the police are here. The house was broken into I was shot at. I didn’t know what to think.”

Once John made it out of the house safely, he called police. Officers found the intruder still inside the home and he was arrested and is now in custody.

John, his wife, and loved ones are relieved no one else was home at the time.

“My kid is usually home because he works afternoons,” said John. “So yeah, thank God.”
