Heavy winds cause carport to lift and slam into Chesterfield condo

Posted

Residents in one Chesterfield condo community were left in shock this morning after watching a once rooted carport completely unhinge, fly away, and slam into a condo.

Luckily no injuries were reported and no cars were damaged, but neighbors are concerned about the rusted condition of these carports which they believe allowed for it to happen in the first place.

"What happened is overtime the salt from salting the roads, actually ate through the steel," said Chesterfield resident, Craig Spinozzi.

A property restoration company was on the scene this afternoon removing the debris.

Elsewhere in the Macomb County, heavy winds were keeping Detroit Edison crews busy, with reports of power line problems, including one that slowed traffic at 14 mile and Mound.

Macomb residents were also forced to proceed with traffic in the area due to several downed traffic signals, while many businesses in the area were forced to close as a result of power outages, including many big chain restaurants and the Macomb County Administration Building.
