April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Macomb County Sheriff's Office put a focus on distracted driving last week.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies targeted the one mile area on M-59 between Romeo Plank and Garfield from April 8 - April 13. The reason they focused on that location is because there are a high number of crashes there.
In the time period, deputies pulled over 181 people and issued 92 tickets for texting while driving. They also issued other tickets.
"Deputies utilized a 'spotter' and identified drivers that were texting while driving," the office said in a release. "Other deputies, in marked patrol cars then stopped motorists and either gave warnings or issued citations when appropriate."
